Here’s how to proceed to receive treatment for knee and hip osteoarthritis:

If you would like to participate in the AktivA® program, you can find the nearest AktivA® clinic here. You then contact the chosen clinic directly.

Participation in AktivA® involves attending patient education (osteoarthritis school), where an AktivA®-physiotherapist will give you a better understanding of what osteoarthritis is, how it can be treated, and what you can do yourself to improve your symptoms.

After this, you will complete an individually tailored exercise program lasting approximately 6–12 weeks, with training twice a week. In consultation with your physiotherapist, you can choose to do the training individually or in a group.

Before starting, and after 3, 12, and 24 months, you will also complete an electronic questionnaire (this can be sent by post if you are unable to complete online).

Once you begin training with a physiotherapist, you may also gain access to videos of basic exercises (here). The password to access these videos can be obtained from your physiotherapist.

Exercise is something that needs to be maintained, so it is important to continue exercising even after you have completed treatment with your physiotherapist.

Patients who have participated in AktivA® report high satisfaction with the treatment they receive. You can find more results by visiting the literature page here.

What is AktivA®?

AktivA® consists of three components: A structured education program for physiotherapists, an evidence-based information and exercise program for patients with hip or knee osteoarthritis, and a quality registry.

What is osteoarthritis?

Osteoarthritis is a rheumatic joint disease that affects the entire joint including the joint lining, joint fluid, joint capsule, cartilage within the joint, and the bone tissue beneath the cartilage. The ligaments and surrounding muscles are also affected.
