Many patients will benefit greatly from participating in the AktivA®program, especially patients with mild to moderate OA. It is therefore important that the physician consider this option before sending a referral to outpatient consultations with orthopedic surgeons. Patients who wish to participate in the osteoarthritis school and/or receive follow-up from an AktivA® physiotherapist can directly contact an AktivA® clinic without a referral.

We can send leaflets for distribution at doctors’ offices. Please email us at post@aktivmedartrose.no or use the contact form. Please include your full name and postal address.

Information about AktivA®

AktivA® is a national implementation model for the treatment of knee and hip osteoarthritis (including degenerative meniscus injuries) and consists of three parts:

  1. The AktivA® course for physiotherapists provides an introduction to the AktivA® program including updated evidence-based knowledge on hip/knee osteoarthritis, implementation of the osteoarthritis school, and introduction to the AktivA® quality register.
  2. An educational program (osteoarthritis school) and follow-up of patients with osteoarthritis in the hip and/or knee with tailored exercise program performed individually and/or in groups.
  3. The AktivA® quality register for outcome documentation.

Inclusion Criteria for Participation in AktivA®:

  • Patients with symptoms and findings indicating osteoarthritis in the hip and/or knee (no need of x-ray documentation).
  • Patients with degenerative meniscus injuries (now known as an early sign of knee osteoarthritis).
  • Individuals older than 35 years.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Other causes of the symptoms (e.g., cancer, inflammatory joint disease).
  • Other diseases/issues causing more dominant symptoms than osteoarthritis (e.g., fibromyalgia, chronic generalized pain).
  • Previously operated with a prosthesis on the side specified as most symptomatic when contacting AktivA®.

What is AktivA®?
