What is AktivA®?

AktivA® is a national implementation model for evidence-based treatment of knee and hip osteoarthritis (OA) (including degenerative meniscal tears) and consists of three parts:

  1. AktivA® course for Physiotherapists: This is a full-day course that provides an introduction to the AktivA® program, including updated knowledge about OA, behavior changes, physical activity and exercises, introduction to the patient education program (osteoarthritis school), and introduction to how to include patients in the AktivA® quality registry.
  1. The AktivA® program (Osteoarthritis School and the Exercise program): This program involves a three-hour patient education program (osteoarthritis School) followed by supervised exercise (individually or in group) for 6-12 weeks. The osteoarthritis school includes the following topics: Information about OA and risk factors, pain, symptoms and dysfunctions, the evidence-based first-line treatment for patients with OA, physical activities and exercises, lifestyle changes, and self-management of OA.
  1. Data registration in the AktivA® Quality Registry: The registry is a systematic recording of data related to the treatment and is used for patient feedback and outcome documentation.

If you have participated in an AktivA® course, you will also gain access to password-protected pages containing PowerPoint presentations, materials needed for conducting osteoarthritis school, videos/presentations of basic exercises and tests, and the electronic quality register system.
